We at Portland Public Schools are preparing our students to LEAD CHANGE AND IMPROVE THE WORLD
GRADUATE PORTRAIT
The PPS Graduate Portrait is a clear and ambitious description of what our community wants its students to know, be, and be able to do, in order to prepare them to thrive in their lives and careers.
The PPS Developmental Continuum is the roadmap that provides developmentally appropriate skills that every student should build in their journey through PPS towards achieving the Graduate Portrait.
The first three elements that we have prioritized are:
PPS is committed to providing all students with high-quality teaching and learning in every classroom, instruction that helps them achieve our Graduate Portrait and closes persistent gaps in outcomes based on race. We’re taking several important steps to make this vision a reality: calibrating around a new instructional framework that articulates a shared vision of highly effective teaching and learning, adopting new curricula to support that instruction, and offering improved professional learning experiences for teachers aligned to both.
There have been many opportunities for community, family, and student engagement throughout the process of developing the PPS ReImagined Vision, Graduate Portrait, and Forward Together Strategic Plan.
PPS is also starting a new Family Advisory Council on Education with representatives from PPS schools to provide feedback about throughout the school year. The Council is a space to provide input to proposed, new, and/or ongoing academic and instructional initiatives and engage in conversations with Senior Instructional Leaders in the District Office.
